Labor Day is around the corner! It's the perfect time to take a break, unwind, and recharge before diving back into the hustle. Whether you're wrapping up projects or simply relaxing, here are 10 ways to maximize your long weekend and get the most out of it!
1. Reflect and Prioritize Labor Day celebrates the contributions of workers, so why not honor yourself by reflecting on your accomplishments? Take a moment to list the things you're proud of and set intentions for the upcoming months. Make a list of what you want to achieve. Perhaps you'll use the fall season as an opportunity to prioritize self-care in your schedule.
2. Embrace the Art of Slowing Down Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, but that doesn't mean you have to rush into fall. Instead, take things slow. If you don't accomplish everything on your list, that's okay! Give yourself permission to relax and recharge. After all, rest is productive, too.
3. Move Your Body Gently When was the last time you took a low-intensity workout? Use this weekend to try something new—yoga, pilates, or barre. Apple Health offers free workouts, and if you're looking for something gentle yet effective, this could be the perfect time to experiment. Personally, I balance my weight training with active rest days. Pilates and barre help me tone and refine without overexerting myself. What will you try?
4. Pack Light, Travel Easy Are you traveling to see family or friends this weekend? If you're like me, you might be guilty of overpacking. The last time I went to LA, my luggage was 30 lbs overweight—yikes! But I’ve learned my lesson. This Labor Day, take the opportunity to declutter and lighten your load, both literally and metaphorically. Switch out your summer clothes for fall and donate or sell what you no longer need. Poshmark, Depop, or your local thrift store are great options to give your clothes a second life.
5. Reconnect with Loved Ones Labor Day is also about spending time with the people who matter most. Even if you're more of a solo adventurer, like me, it's important to reach out to friends and family. Send a text, make a phone call, or even plan a virtual hangout. Reconnecting with loved ones can be just as rejuvenating as taking a day off.
6. Nourish Your Body Healthy eating doesn’t have to be a chore, especially during a holiday weekend. Treat yourself to fresh, seasonal foods like juicy watermelon, grilled vegetables, or a new salad recipe. If you’re heading to a barbecue, bring something delicious that aligns with your health goals—your body will thank you later. I loved Josh Weissman's Cheap and Healthy Meals video!
7. Get Outside and Breathe Summer may be winding down, but the outdoors is still calling! Whether it’s a hike, a walk on the beach, or simply sitting on your porch with a cup of coffee, take time to soak in the beauty of nature. A little fresh air can do wonders for your mood and energy levels.
8. Unplug and Reboot With so much focus on productivity, it's easy to stay glued to screens. This Labor Day, give yourself permission to unplug. Set your phone on Do Not Disturb, close your laptop, and spend some time offline. Whether it's reading a book, drawing, or just being present, this digital detox will leave you feeling refreshed.
9. Tackle a Home Project Have you been putting off that home project? Now’s the time to tackle it—without the pressure. Maybe it’s organizing your art studio (something I’ve been working on!), redecorating a room, or simply cleaning out a closet. Completing a small project can give you a sense of accomplishment and create a more peaceful environment.
@thelonegooseco My love for design is what started me on this DIY journey. I'm a big believer that DIY shouldn't and doesn't have to look like DIY. If you've been here awhile, you know love sharing detailed tutorials and I'm always trying to learn a new skill with each project. If you're new here or new to building and using tools, then welcome. You're in the right place. I hope you grab a tool and join me.. #diyprojects #diyhome #diycabinets #diyproject #diyanddesign ♬ original sound - Molly
10. Give Yourself Grace Lastly, remember to be kind to yourself. This weekend is about resting and rejuvenating, not perfection. Whether you’re completing tasks, exercising, or just lounging, give yourself grace and enjoy the process. You've worked hard, and you deserve this time to recharge.
